Editing

Today Fabio and I, recorded the voiceover and added it to the news report, I added some more secondary footage and edited more of the film. Babz also continued with some editing, Nassia's story needs to be added before the report is complete.

Filming of the piece to camera.

During yesterday's lesson, Babz filmed my piece to camera. I had a few problems with memorising the script but we got it done and uploaded it. We have cut out the parts we don't need and we now need to put it in order to fit the news report together. Fabio has also found secondary footage to use as filler shots.

Filming The Interview

In today's lunch time, we organised a meeting with Mr Fuller who acted as our leading healthcare processional  we asked him the questions I previously noted for the interview. The first time we filmed which was two days before we noticed that the room was too messy, Mr Fuller sounded more like a teacher than a doctor through his expression and the way he spoke and as well as this he didn't look much like a doctor. so taking this into account, we returned to re-film the interview. I watched Nicola Roberts' documentary 'The Truth About Tanning' which gave me an idea of how a healthcare professional should act. To correct the first mistakes,  this time we made Mr Fuller wear a white coat over his suit similar to one worn in the documentary. We also varied shot types. We got an over the shoulder shot of him explaining the sun bed damage through the use of a diagram, again this was taken from the documentary. As well as this, we changed the location of the interview to one of the newer science labs to make it more visually appealing.

Secondary Data Addition

Fabio and I were looking on YouTube and found this video that we could use a few short clips from for our news package. Most of the clips we'll cut from this video will be used as filler shots, for example, pictures of people on sunbeds, dangers and statistics.
We uploaded the video onto Adobe together with all the footage we managed to gather and started to edit the video down to all the filler shots we can use.

Fashion Page and News Package Progress

In todays lesson I realised I needed to make some progress on the website's fashion page. Looking into other websites and magazines articles on fashion I got a better idea on how to present and lay out the article on the website. In addition, at the beginning of the year I took a few photos of people who have a great interest in fashion, to put on our blog as decoration and can also refer to them in the article.

Here is the finished page...

Furthermore, also during todays lesson we're looking on YouTube at tanning/sunbed videos that we could use in our news package as a source of secondary footage. Due to the snow, filming has had to be put on hold for a bit until we can film again. If worst comes to worst we will have to chose a different location to film the bits we have left to film, however this will make it look slightly messy.

Music Page

I had a few free lessons so I decide to stay back to work a little on the website which at the moment is looking very empty. I have put a gallery at the bottom and added the first picture. Hopefully i'll be able to find more pictures to go up. They dont nessearily have to be of celeb but i want to give that impression! What i need to remember is that this is a page solely for music and not get too carried away with pictures.

Just An Article I Found

This morning, whilst on the Daily Mail website i stumbled across this article which has relevance to our story!

Progress on the scripts...

In todays lesson, i have been scripting the interview with someone who is meant to have been affected by tanning. Nassia will take on this role. I also wrote part of the voiceover to try and make the transition smoother.

Here is what ive written so far, obviously nassia can change it into her own words so shes more confidnent and comfortable in what she's saying.

Voice over: It seems young people are in the high risk group of getting skin cancer but many feel like they’ve  not been informed about its dangers as well as they should have been.

Nassia: I’ve been tanning since I was about 15. It started off just casual and mainly because my friends were doing it and then after a while I started doing because I wanted to look good and I started to become uncomfortable without it. At first it would be once a month maybe, sometimes even less but over a period of a few years it got to the stage where I would go in almost twice a week. You hear there are risks but you overlook it, you don’t really take it in until someone tells you directly or even shows you the damage you are doing to yourself.  What you see on TV are these beautifully tanned women and you forget that just like you, they’re putting their health at risk to achieve this look. I really think if someone had said to me sooner “look, these are the risks…” I would have done things  differently, i'd have been more careful.
Voiceover: Nicola Roberts 1/5 of renowned girl band girls aloud has been part of an on-going campaign to expose the dangers of tanning. Her recent documentary “The Truth About Tanning” is one of the first public condemnations of the tanning industry by a celebrity. Her bold attempt to make a stand against tanning with the help of some of the country’s leading health professionals has sparked debate as to whether or not more needs to be done to protect young people. Although Nicola had strong input into the law changes in 2010 to change the age restriction from 16 to 18 years old, she still feels more should be done. Dr Fuller shares these views.

BABY DRAMA

In class today we're playing back the interview we filmed and deciding which bits to cut out to cut it down to 2 minutes from 5 minutes. Fortunately for this because as we were filming in the background there was a baby that was making a fair amount of noise every so often. Thankfully we have enough footage to pull it all together successfully.

The interview with the beautician

Yesterday, Nassia, Chandni, Fabio and myself went to "Fake It" a sunbed shop in Finchley. We got there and again the woman was very cautious to speak to us. Her answers swayed towards the health and beauty side of sunbed tanning and neglected the dangers of tanning. Because of this, we've decided that her interview will not be sufficient. It can be included in the package but we have to get an interview with a health proffesional.

Filming for our news package...

Today Chandni, Fabio and myself went to the Edgware to begin our filming. Nassia couldnt make it. The first place we went was to the tanning shop in the hope that people going in and out would be willing to talk to us about tanning. This wasnt the case, people were almost intimidated by our camera. So we relocated to the broadwalk to try and get some voxpops for our news package. We set up in the shopping centre in the hope to grab some passers by. We found it very hard to talk to people about the issue of exessive tanning becuase we feel like they thought we were being judgemental or trying to slate tanning as a whole. Other people didnt find the issue interesting enough to be asked questions on it or said that they didnt know enough about tanning. Towards the end we managed to get a couple of people who were very willing to help and to give their opinions on the matter.

Complete reporters script.

A recent study has shown that teenage girls are so desperate for a tan that that they are prepared to face the serious health risks that can develop from excessive sunbed usage. Research in the British Journal of Dermatology has suggests that nine out of ten of the sunbeds in England fail to meet British and European standards. The growing obsession with getting 'Golden and glowing skin' inspired by celebrity culture has meant that skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in the UK. The use of sunbeds amongst young people is increasing at an alarming rate which has led to serious concern from health professionals.  We have spoken to a manager in a local tanning salon.
